I ran across a thread a while ago that had links to someones pics of their homemade back to back seats made from 4 folding boat seats. I'm planning on doing the same thing w/ seats from an old abandoned boat project but now I can't find the pics to save my life. Anyone know of the pics I'm referring to or have any pics of your own homemade b2b seats?

That's the thread all right. I should have known you'd be the one to chime in w/ the answers as usual.:D Thanks

Now I just need to finish re-covering them to match the newly recovered cushions up front in the open bow and build the bases.

for the proper angle for the backs, the base is 6 inches, coming to the point which make center 3 inches. the height 17 inches. this give you the triangle.

Re: Homemade back to back seat pic request

Well I finally got a chance to go grab the seats from my old abandoned boat project and now I'm re-thinking my seating design. It turns out there were 2 seats on pedestals which happen to be just the right size and when moved forward enough for comfortable driving leaves plenty of legroom behind them to put a bench seat along the rear of the boat instead of the back to back seats.

The passenger can swivel around and be the spotter when pulling skiers and such plus it makes for a much more social seating arrangement when just hanging out on the boat. I plan on building a aluminum angle iron frame for the rear bench and a long padded backrest mounted on the rear of the boat interior. I'll incorporate a spot for the battery on one side and the gas tank on the other side of the bench w/ a flap of matching vinyl on the front of the bench frame to hide them.

i did that on this boat, but ended up with back to back, made it too stern heavy and really struggled to get on plane, with a 50 hp motor.

Nice looking seats but not too sure how they would feel after an hour or two on the boat.

My plan to keep the weight down on the rear bench is to build the frame out of aluminum angle iron. Really it will just be a bench w/ a padded back rest attached to the front of the splash well. Not only will the aluminum frame make it light, I won't have to worry about rust or rot. I can always move people up front to the newly redone open bow seats if I need to as well.

did no know you had a bow rider. talk about light, that porch swing in mine was only about 30 lbs. the bar seats were spectacular, but the oak did not like the sun.

Re: Homemade back to back seat pic request

The frame and seat cushion shouldn't break 20 lbs. Hopefully more like 10-15 lbs. I took the vinyl off one of the old seats and took all the seams apart to make patterns for the new vinyl covers. I figure It'll be a heck of lot easier to recover just the 2 pedestal seats. I've recovered all the cushions up front so I'm already a pro at doing simple seat cushions so the rear bench will be a piece of cake. It's when I get the wife involved w/ her sewing machine that projects seem to come to a screeching halt. Heaven forbid I interrupt her quilting. ;)

BTW is an 1970s tri-hull open bow considered a bow rider? The original registration from 1974 listed the boat as a runabout which doesn't really sound right either.

it's both, different times same meaning. you have fishing boat, and runabouts, then cruisers. back then anything over 20" and had some type of cabin was a crusier.
