Hole Plugging Question

I am still new to this boating thing, only in my 9th month of boat ownership. My question is concerning a drain plug hole in my transom. Not the drain for the hull, but there is a drain plug hole right directly under the engine. When the boat is in the water, this area fills with water. It never overfills into the boat, but I was just wondering what would happen if I put a plug in this hole? I hope I explained this right, sorry for the stupidness.
Thanks

Re: Hole Plugging Question

Hi Barry.

You need to tell us more about your boat.

The hole you speak of may be a "scupper", intended to let water drain out of the cockpit if you take some over the bow or gunnels in rough water. In that case it should be left open.

It also might be a drain intended to be kept plugged except when you are washing the boat down or get water in from some other reason, like rain.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Re: Hole Plugging Question

just wondering if this 'area' you're talking about is a homemade livewell? or maybe what i've heard called the splashwell(right in front of motor)? maybe you should provide the model/make of boat...
