I have a little 12' Jon Boat that I have been using while my other boat is under construstion. So long story short I was taking the boat off the trailer for cleaning and the corner of the trailer poked threw the bottom of the hull. yea I know not the brightest right!

so I need to know the best way to patch a 3/4" to 1" hole in allum. boat .The hole is right at my feet if I was sitting in the back. It is in between two ribs. By the way welding is not an option. I have some 5200 and I have heard of this galvit (sp) stuff. I would like a good repair so I can sell it when I am done with my rebuild on my other boat.
Since I am already posting I have a few leaky rivits should I put new revits in or use some 5200?
thanks for the help
Richard

a hole that size you need to make a aluminum patch, rivieted with solid rivets, with 5200 sandwiched between the hull and patch, Gulvit is the alumiinum boats best friend.

i would use 5200 between the existing hull and the patch over the hole. then coat the outside of the patch with Gulvit, and inside and out of the revits that are suspect. Gulvit is available at the iboats store, it is rather runny so it seeps into all kinds of cracks and crevices. gulvit is usually available at most marine store. it's a little pricey, but well worth it.

I agree 5200 basically rebuilt my duck boat.....I sandwich between and then corless rivit. Replaceing rivits is always an option? Just curious why no welding?

no welding because I refuse to have any "shop" do any work for me In my whole life I had a "shop" balance my wheel and charge a a/c system other wise I do it my self and if I had the right tool i would do it my self also.
I can weld and I have a welder but I can only weld with a stick and it is my understand that there is no way to weld alum. with a sttick welder. if there is a way let me know!

Thanks for the info it sound like I should be in the water by next weekend

Hummmm my question is will it be a flat patch? 5200 has worked really good for me in the past...metal prep is key, if you have a right angle wizzer wheel or some call it a 3M pad clean it real good down to raw aluminum. and as someone here said sandwich your flat patch and rerivit....that is the best I can think of if you want to be back on the water next weekend....Take a bucket LOL
