After years of good luck, it finally happened. I hit a boulder with my 17 foot runabout with an alpha I sterndrive. Very scrary experience that I wish on no one, It trashed the prop & broke the skeg. Question, will a skeg guard be a suitable fix and does anyone have an opinion about a comprop? I just want to save a little $$ because my wife is giving me hell, she thinks I should have seen with my X-ray vision!

Never used a comprop so I can't answer that one but I have put on a skeg guard and it is a lot less expensive than getting the skeg repaired and lasts longer -

I didn't see any major difference in performance

Good luck -

As long as you got a piece-o-skeg left, about an inch of meat to attach to,the skeguard will make you happy. It'll actually manuever better (at least, it did on a niegbor's boat).

------------------
Time to change my tagline

Thanks guys, I have about half a skeg left so maybe I lucked out. After I broke the prop the motor stalled almost every time I shifted to neutral, Hope this is not an indication of further damage.
