Hi-Lex throttle, why two switches?

My new (except it's a 1987) Sunbird has a Hi-Lex throttle, that has two rocker switches. One is on the lever, marked "UP DN" and the other is on the "wall plate," marked "UP TRIM DN" . . .

It's a MC 185 w/AlphaOne I/O drive.

one is the trailer switch to run it all the way up. the other is the trim switch to operate in the trim range.

Cool, thanks for the info. FO said that there is a problem with "the" switch, I will dig into it and see what the story is, but I needed to know what they were supposed to do for me.

Ayuh,...... Most likely, the trim up, quits, when the trim limit switch wires fail, in under the bellhousing,....
You can by-pass it by jumpering 'em, inside the transom, where they come into the boat,....
Then the up button will run all the way to tilt,....
