I just bought a 1986 wellcraft 185 elite. On the left side of my throttle is my trim. I have 2 buttons that are on the right side of my throttle that look just like the trim buttons... Can somebody please tell me what these two buttons do? Thanks for helping..

Re: HELP

Is the boat equipped with trim tabs? I assume you are referring to engine tilt when you say trim. Trim tabs are mounted on both sides of the engine on the transom. THat would be my guess.

Re: HELP

Trim tabs are metal plates attached to a piston that moves the plates up and down. Trim tabs help you get on plane faster, level the boat etc

Re: HELP

If these are just push buttons as opposed to rocker switches then it could be an outboard engine jack? Trim tabs need 2x3-way rockers or a separate joystick ... by the way does anything happen when you press them - try this when the boat is stationary and engines off but power switched on? They could just be a copy of the LHS buttons depending on positioning at the helm [iow where your thumb is?]

Re: HELP

You are right Sea Bear, he said buttons, and in my mind's eye, I saw rocker switches, one for each tab. I have had both, actually three types of tab controls. Joystick, rocker switches, and a quad button setup, which I felt was the most user friendly for my old Topaz.

Re: HELP

krosemond I stand corrected! Over here [UK] they market the quad buttons as the 'racing powerboat' choice? I personally have the two rocker switches which are ok but I had to fit position indicators ...

Re: HELP

The other buttons may be for putting the outdrive into the trailor position. Using these buttons bypasses the limit switch so that the outdrive can go up higher then normal for trailoring.
