i have a wellcraft v-20 that has a rope deck pipe on the bow. the anchor line/rop comes throught the fitting and attached to a bow deck mounted anchor. The deck pipe has a cap that fits over the rope to prevent water from entering the cabin area. NO MATTER What i do water always comes through the deck pipe into the cabin. th rope seem to fit perfectly, not allowing much room for water to get in. the boat is at a mooring so the elements are always coming at the boat. My mooring cover does not extend past the windshield..Any ideas how to make this work better, is there another tyopr of thru hull fitting for an achor line? should i make a caover for the deck pipe? im racking my brain and i cant figure it out. I dont want to get rid of the deck pipe because is very handy when flounder fishing and i drop anchor, since the anchor line has to come throught the bow fitting as there is no hatck..??? any thoughts
thank you

Bear in mind the anchor line is wet when you put it away, so there will always be some water issue. Beyond that, if you feel the water is coming in at mooring maybe use something cheesy like a plastic bag and rubber band to hold it in place. If you are taking water over the bow while underway, I'm not aware of a good remedy.....like maybe a watertight deck pipe. One question though, Does your anchor rode locker have a drain? So any water would drain to the bilge instead of accumulating and leaking to the cabin?

I'm not following something here. Even if the hawse pipe allows water into the anchor locker, why is it leaking into the cabin?

Isn't the locker sealed, with its own outboard drain? Unless there's something funky about that boat's design that I don't understand, there shouldn't be a path for water to run between the hawse pipe and the cabin.

thank you for your respones...i think the problem may be that its not really a cabin per say its more of a storage area. the cabin area has been re plywooded by previous owner and there is no rope/chain locker...i keep the anchor rope in a large plastic tub....is there any kind of a cover i could put over the deckpip while underway or at the mooring..im not sure if they make anything like that..any ideas would be appreciated??
thanks

how about a clevis in the anchor line and disconnect when not in use... just enough chain on the anchor to reach below for easy hookup..... then you can change over to more water tight pass through setup

Re: Help With Rope Deck Pipe

A long time ago I had a boat with a poor mans rope pipe in the bow. It was just a 2" diameter holesawed thru the fiberglass. The rope just went thru the hole and piled up on the floor below.
To keep water over the bow and rain water from entering I made a silicone rubber stopper/cork thingy. I cut the tapered neck portion off a water bottle and threaded the rope thru it and secured it at the right spot from the anchor end. Set the bottle neck into the 2" hole and vasolined the inside of the bottle.
Centered the rope in the bottle and taped it to the boat so it would stay still.
Filled bottle neck with cheap chalking gun brown silicone. After it cured a week in warm weather, I pulled the bottle neck away and cut it off.

Then I had a full time dedicated position hole plug with anchor rope running thru it.

Maybe you can do something similar with what you have.

Is the hole in the deck pipe facing the rear of the hull as it should, if properly installed?
