I have a Larson 18 ft runabout, and am trying to outfit it to do some trout fishing with the kids. I have a 46 lb Minn Kota troller installed now, and am looking for pole holders that I can clamp on or remove easily. The sides of this boat are too narrow for most pole holding brackets I've seen. Has anyone come up with a solution for pole holders for a boat like mine? thanks

Perry

Re: help with rod holders please

mpstan; I troll out of a 14' Aluminum boat and had those cheapie clamp on holders, they were always slipping & never seemed to work right.

I found a holder at Walmart, they are Roberts holders with a side mount. The mounts are flush with the sides of the boat. Each comes with an extra mount so you can put one on each side.

The holders come off for storage so there is nothing in the way if your not using them. The best part is they only run about 12 bucks each.

Hope this some help. Hal

I use a Robert's clone that Kmart sells. Same design and Robert's will fit but they about $4 cheaper. Use them in both of my boats.

Re: help with rod holders please

Guys, I have been looking for a "good" rod holder that I can use for my aluminum boat and one that I DON'T have to drill another hole in my boat for...as well as being able to take if off for duck hunting. You've got me interested.

First of all, I tried that www.scotty web site, but it won't open? :(

I checked Wally World the other day for holders and could only find ones that screwed on. Are the ones you're talking about clamp on's???

Thanks.

Re: help with rod holders please

As of yet I have never found a clamp on holder worth a ****. I have modified some to fit my toon and they work well providing cheap holders but I had to drill to make them work. In my alluminum I used PVC but still had to mount them with screws. O have one suggestion if you are or know a welder. Purchase some good C clamps and some cheap metal holders from Wally World. Work out the angle for the weld and such before you make the first one and join the holder part to the good C clamp. It should be cheap enough and work a darn sight better than the ones they sell.

I'll go +1 on the Scotty products. Mine insert into flush mounts on the gunwale of my boat.

There are lots of rod holders that remove easily. I use DriftMasters (metal) as I've broken the plastic ones before. Driftmaster has a bunch of mounting bases to fit different applications.
