I have an Evinrude 65hp Model no: 65373R and Serial no: A87612.

I went to start and all i am getting is a click from the solenoid. The starter motor does not engage what so ever. I have checked all connections and they seem fine.

Where do I go next?

I would take the starter in and have it tested, as a worse case scenario. Make sure your battery is fully charged

if possible try putting direct power to the starter and see if it throws in.

Welcome to iboats.

Get a known good battery in it first then if it still does it jump the solenoid to check the starter.

Follow the big red cable from the starter to solenoid, it should have a big lug on the top and bottom and short the top and bottom lugs together, this should make the starter work if not you probably have a bad starter.

Re: Help Starting Problems

I would say bad starter bad solenoid or bad cables. As stated above try to jump the starter with direct voltage to the starter lug ( the wire that goes from the solenoid to the starter) Sometimes a solenoid will have corrosion in it and it will only click and not make a connection between the battery and starter.

If the starter spins when you jump it direct from a good battery, then check ALL wires/cables/connections. All connections must be shiny clean - any corrosion can cause the problem you're experiencing.
