Re: Help relocating

Don't take a ton of time, but check out the town of North Port. There are canals there with access to the harbor, and at least 7 years ago, it was the most affordable new housing around.
The boating is good. Kinda depends on what you want to do. If you are a flats boat fisher, you will be in Vahalla. Not so much if all you do is slolam ski. Charlotte Harbor gets rough, but it's but I have seen 20 foot bowriders cross it no problem. I have never gotten to spend anytime in the waters in the area, it was on the way to other places. Looked good to me.
I do know the canals can be shallow. So depending on your boat, that may be the most important thing to check out. Good luck.

Re: Help relocating

2 years ago you could have bought lots for 3500 in PC and 2500 in North Port. I dont know of any building lot around thats under 30,000 right now. Lots on non-sail boat canals were going for 100,000 before the hurricane. Right now they're about 300,000. Sailboat lots are going for 400,000 and up.

There are a few canal lots around that are going for about 325,000 but you have to knock down the house.

Be real careful about lots. Make darn sure they are NOT in whats called a "scrub jay" zone. Those lots are about 1/2 price but you cant build on them. Well, you can but you have to buy 2 lots somewhere else that are OK'd by the county fathers and donate them to the county.
