HELP!!! Pontoon Steering Locked up.

My mom's pontoon is a '96 24 ft. Neptune. The steering worked fine this past Spring, but now is locked up!! How do I find out what is causing this problem and, hopefully, fixing it without having to spend a fortune. The pontoon is kept off the water on a lift under a boat shelter on a creek. (F.Y.I. The water is brackish to saltwater out in the river.) Are there any manuals out there that give step-by-step instructions on how to repair locked steering on a pontoon boat?

Pontoon boat steering is no different than any other boat. I am assuming it is Teleflex. Start by breaking down the problem. Disconnect at the motor. Is it the motor? If the motor turns freely manually, move on to the steering wheel and to the part under inside the helm. Disconnect the cable there. By breaking down the problem, you will find the cause and solution. Get back to us after this exercise. ALMOST every component can be fixed.
