when i first saw this hull i knew it wasn't a laser (the fiberglass patch there was made buy the previous owner who apparently used this as a dive platform???)

i checked the transom for a HIN number but nothing,

there is a logo of a "B3" i guess that's what that is?

the hull is in great shape and looks to need minimal work only a few scraches

there is another logo there in that picture, it seems to have all the hardware it needs in good working order too, a friend suggested that it might be a Force V, i looked it up on the internet, the hull shape is really close but the layout is different, a holder 12 was another possibility, that i got after looking at ShortyPen's Board Boat Sailboat Guide the shape is very similar but again not the same. and just what is a B3 anyways? I already made a decision that even if i don't find the make of the boat i'm still gonna get it out on the water, would be nice to see what the foils look like etc.
the mast in the pic's has the bottom part hacked off for some reason its only 18' high and has a rough edge on the bottom with no Base Plug Kit, and no Vang Tang Kit (i dont understand why this was done)

oh i broke out the tape measure its LOA is 13'6" width is 4'3" at it widest point, the hull wieght is like from 130 to 140 pounds

So if anyone here can help i would really appreciate it

2?

I'll second that it's not a Laser. I work with quite a few of the "popular" board boats teaching youth sailing.

No Hull ID can mean a couple of things. [1] it was produced prior to 1972 when the transom ID became mandatory, or [2] it's not made in North America originally so wouldn't have the Hull ID.

In the world of logos it might be Beta 3, Beta 33, /33 (Slash 33), 3.3 (as in 3.3m). They're darned near as goofy as cattle brands.

3.3m would be roughly 11 feet, but you spec'ed it longer than that <Shrug> so there goes that theory.

Compared to other boats of this appearance, like Laser, Holder12, and Zuma the hull appears to be a simple mold. No offence meant - just an observation, I'm guessing it's a Laser lookalike on the inexpensive side. It does look like it's been stored out of the sun.

This is a very good thing. All the pieces and parts add up to more than what a fully functional used boat cost. We get kids every year who spend $2-3-400 on a bare hull only to discover it's going to take another $1000 - $1500 for a rudder, board, mast, boom, and sail. Bare hulls are like a stereo box with no guts.

What's in a name if it's fun to sail. Name it after yourself just for kicks.

 Just be sure your new mast has a bottom cap of some sort. A raw tubing end will cut through fiberglass like a cookie cutter.

Good sailing

Re: Help me ID this dinghy

thank you Saildan for that great advice, so i guess its not all that important to ID my fake Laser then, if it turns out to be fun to sail is all that matters.

So since it's a Laser lookalike on the inexpensive side what would be the best way to go about getting rudder, board, mast, boom, and sail and that stuff.
i was thinking of using a rig from a Bic windsurfing board, but i dunno any ideas?

Oof --- I thought you meant you had most of that stuff when you said - it seems to have all the hardware it needs in good working order too

Unless you want to lay out a grand or so for new Laser parts and adapt where needed, the used parts market on Craigslist, ebay, and your local sailing clubs will be your best bet. You'll still have to adapt parts a little, probably the rudder gudgeon bracket and pintle pins. These are generally custom to each brand of boat.

Boats that aren't readily recognized by someone have usually been out of production for awhile. OEM parts are likely non-existant at this point.

Plan on finding pieces and parts from other brands over the coming boating season. You might get lucky and find a wrecked hull for salvage at one shot or a part here and a part there.

You might also be able to adapt a BIC rig. I'm thinking the sail area will be a little shy of the origional sail size and you'll be somewhat underpowered. I'd key off the Laser specs for their model of the same general size to make comparisons and get ideas.

"it seems to have all the hardware it needs in good working order too"

i meant everything attached to the hull, my fault i should have been more specific.

well now that i know it's not worthwhile to try and find OEM parts, im going to change my focus and have fun trying to manufacture daggerboard, rudder, tiller.
ill try options with the rigging and see what works best.

thanks again saildan, i appreciate all that great advice, as soon as i get something in the water, ill post some pics :)

I follow that logic. I'd look to the Laser and Zuma web sites as idea models since the general latout is close to those boats.

Best of luck - and - have fun
