I JUST BOUGHT THE MOTOR . RAN IT FOR ABOUT 3 HR RAN FINE AND THEN DIED  CHECKED FOR SPARK AND THERE WAS NONE... CHECKED ALL ELECTRICAL CONNECTION AND ALL CHECKED OK. TRYIED OFF AND ON TO START FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND NO LUCK :( . THE NEXT WEEKEND I PUT THE MOTOR IN A BARREL AND IT STARTED UP FINE. RAN IT AT HIGH RPMS FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND IT DIDN'T DIE. PUT IT ON THE BOAT WENT BACK OUT ONTO THE RIVER AND IN 5 MIN. IT DIED AGAIN  . THAT TIME IT WOULD RUN FOR 30 SEC. AND WAIT 3 MIN . THIS WOULD KEEP REPEATING IT'S SELF. EACH TIME NO SPARK. ALL CONNECTION LOOK GOOD. I HAVE READ MANY PROBLEM SIMILAR TO MY PROBLEM. AND I'M JUST WOUNDERING IF IT IS A CD POWER PACK PROBLEM , SENSOR COIL , RECTIFIER OR WHAT????? I DON'T WANT TO START CHANGING SPENDY PARTS IF I DONT HALF TO. HAS ANY ONE HAD A PROBLEM SUCH AS THIS  . I ASSUME I WILL HALF TO BREAK OUT THE OHMMETER AND START TROUBLESHOOTING. I'M THINKING IT'S THE POWER PACK . ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED :p

D. Crowson
All here need more info, mod, ser, etc. Is the bulb hard? What gas/oil ratio are you running? Was same tank used in test at the house and river? If not is tank vented (is bulb flat?)? If bulb is flat remove cap from tank, did it gasp for air? There is good info here, but they need more so it can be looked up. This is a great place!

Richard

ps. many take all caps as yelling!

Ok Richard thanks again. After I had posted my message my wife informed me that caps are for yelling . I'm not yelling it's just a habbit. I use caps at work to write work orders... any hoot . Now that you mention it, I dont remember if the gas cap was tight or loose. I just remember the time before I had no spark. I couldn't get that thing to shock me or anything :( I'm going to put it in a tank again tomorrow and i will try things with the gas cap tight, then loose, and see what happens. I still think i have a spark problem. If the powerpack goes out will it not spark? That little guy cost $72.00, I hate for that not to be the problem. If any one has an idea, Id love to here from you

Ypu have done a little troubleshooting and it sounds like you do indeed have an ignition problem.Start simple, when this occurs again, disconect your stop switch from it's ground.Motor keeps on singing, bad kill switch. After that things get more complicated, requiring peak reading volt meters,or shotgun part changing.
