hi all im not the biggest tech head so anything you say please use easy to understand directions :)
i have a 88 mod 70hp evinrude e70tlcca i have just replaced the water pump and tried to get the thing running. the engine flooded the first time and then after disconnecting the fuel line and cranking it over it eventually fired i replaced the fuel line and ran for say 5 mins then it stopped on its own and when i tried to start it straight after it stopped it fired but sounded like it was running on only one cyl.
i removed the plugs and all 3 where soaked in fuel and oil.
any ideas as to what i should do next????
i will drain all the fuel and put fresh oil in the mix at 50:1 (which is what i always use) and see what happens but any help will be a huge advantage.

Sounds like its time for a carb rebuild. Sounds like your neddle and seat or float.

Your fuelpump might also have a plown diaphram. If you have a 3rd hose that goes to it for the pulse ,remove it from the port, squeeze the ball and see if gas pours thru,if it does it needs to be rebuilt, you may have the fuelpump that picks up the pulse thru a hole in the back and when attached with the mounting screws ,it sits over a hole,if this is the case ,remove the mounting screws and test as above looking for gas out back of pump hole. You could also start it briefly and see if fuel is shot out,if it were the carbs, you should see an abundance of fuel flow out the carb(s) if a float is hung up by squeezing the ball also

when you say
if it were the carbs, you should see an abundance of fuel flow out the carb(s)
do you mean i would see fuel mix in the front of the engine when i remove the big rectangular cover over the 3 carbs?

Re: help!!! evinrude is flooding its self

more info, how long have you owned the motor?
do not run it until this is sorted out, good way to blow the motor.

was the motor tilted when you were trying to start it. it should be all the way down, or it throws the carbs out of level, and the needle valve opens, flooding the motor.
