Help!!.....96 112 SPL excessive smoke

Littlle advice please......

I took my boat on vacation, filled the tank at a local gas station, launched the boat, ran fine, drove it to the mooring and tied it up to the dock.

Then I added the oil - 50:1.

I started up the motor and now it's smoking heavy out of the exchaust ports and spraying out raw gas.

I think adding in the oil was just a coinicidence. I think a float on one of the carbs is hung up.

Any advice?

First, Add the oil before pumping the gas. That way the oil/gas are mixed completely.

How does the motor run? Does the Primer Bulb get hard when you pump? If not, take the front cover off the air box so you can see the carb throats. With the motor turned off, pump the primer bulb and see if raw fuel starts coming out of the front of the carbs. Stuck float will cause this to happen.

Agreed - should of added the oil beforehand.

The primer bulb gets hards, motor starts, then runs for about 30 seconds and shuts off. If you pump the gas to try and keep it running it dies right away, like you flooded it out.

I also checked the fogging valve, it is turned clockwise, which I understand is off. For kicks last night I turned it counter-clockwise and the motor ran continuously, but smoked out the place.

I'm at work today, but going back to the lake tonight. I will take off the carb covers and check to see if the jets are spraying. I thought about shooting in some carb cleaner as well.

Any other ideas?

Was ther any oil in the gas when you first ran it? With no or very low oil the very first thing you need to do is a compression test. You will toast the motor really fast with no oil.

There was about six gallons premix'd with oil in the tank, I added another 6 gallons. The house I'm staying in is three away from the boat launch. So, it ran for very little time at low RPM's.

Yes, running your boat with no oil is like running your car with no oil. If you added gas and ran it before you added oil, even if you had a little oil from the previous tank, theres a good chance you toasted your piston rings. Do a compression check to see if you need to rebuild your engine.

The red primer solenoid arm (fogging valve) should be turned to where the tip of the arm is pointing towards the end of the solenoid. If it's perpendicular, then that is full, manual prime which is not good.

If the primer bulb gets hard then the floats should be fine. Can't think of any other things to check at the moment. Good Luck
