I have attached a picture of the latch that is used to secure the hard top when not in use. When you take off the wing nut to slide the soof back you have the bolt that sticks out a couple of inches and looks like an accident waiting to happen to the top of someones head. Is this the standard set up?

Re: Hard Top Latch

I had knurled knob headed bolts. Safer than the wingnut. They looked sorta like this.

That is more along the lines of what I was thinking would be the original and I will go back to something like that asap. The bolts sticking down from the hard top are an accident waiting to happen.

starboard knurled knob and catch.

port knurled knob and catch. note nut on flush to hardtop. the bolt is i think a ovel head flat drive screw. the head is flush with the trim on the hardtop on the outside. the nut holds the bolt in place and the knurled knob lets you loosen the catch to release the hardtop to be slid back.

port knob.

so the stud is sticking down waiting to stab your head. fortunately. they seem to be mounted inboard far enough that i've rarely (not never) hit my head on them. when i release the hardtop, i screw the knob back tight (which exposes more of the stud since the catch isn't mating to the windshield) to hold the catch bracket in place. yep, the stud hangs down to stab you with...

the pics are with the hardtop closed and latched tight.
