Grounding Amp in boat

since there is no grounding point on the boat itself do i ground my amp to the negative on the battery? Thanks

You can if you don't have one any where else closer to the amp. Make sure if you run the hot to the battery that you put an inline fuse on the hot wire just before it connects to the battery.

do i ground my amp to the negative on the battery?
in the end. all wiring connections end (or start, depending on how ya look at it) at the batt. neg. post. anywhere ground connection inbetween is fair game too (assuming the wire is large enough to carry the load yer amp will put to it). most of my grounds end up at the block. which is connected to the neg. batt. terminal. to me, it's just cleaner to have one wire ea. going to my batt.....

Grounding to the hull of a tin boat is not the best idea. If you follow the negative battery cable from the battery you will find it is attached to the engine block -- not the hull. Although the engine is bolted to the hull, the hull is generally painted, as is the engine, so the hull may or may not be a good place to ground. Running the ground directly to the negative battery terminal is the best connection. There are also galvanic corrosion issues to deal with if you boat in salt water.
