Took my 3.5 yr old son fishing to a "place" we've went many times before when he was real small(started him when he was 2, 15 min at a time)., We used cheese and some power bait just to keep cheese in one peice longer, got 3 BIG catfish and 1 great big bluegill in 2 hrs! 100 DEGREES and still biting! Scared the heck out of him when line broke on 2 of em on bank, reeling, wrestling in, showed him another cat up close and also the big bluegill! 5 miles from my house, free, beat the **** outta lafayette where I took him and 4 other siblings last 2 weeks(only small perch). This is a catch and release POND only. Unbeleivable! Just need to know another "mix/formula" to keep stinky cheese together better! Dough maybe? What a great day and he has the "fever"! Heinz

yeah, I figured I'd start him asap, you worked in Lafayette? I used to live in Hayward briefly(3 mos.) when I first moved up here from S. Cal. 4 yrs ago. Concord lots closer to Copart HQ were I work in Benicia. What brought you back to Del.?

Get some womens stockings (nylons). Trim out a piece about 1" x 1" and wrap it around the cheese bait then run the hook into the wrap to hold it together. A light colored panthose works best.<br /><br />For a great cat fish chum use cat food! Just tie a string around the can lid and crack it open just a bit. With the string you can retieve it without polluting the water.<br /><br />Oh.....for marraige safety reasons explain to your wife why you have stockings among the fishing gear.<br /><br />Bob :D

Mox in some cattail heads (the fluffy stuff they produce) into the bait mix. The fibers are natural and help hold any bait concotion together. Personally i use cut baits or live for my cats but I will stoop to Doc's for numbers of eating sized fish.

Crab bait-<br /><br />(Not sure how else to contact you, so posted here. There a better way?)<br /><br />I lived in Hayward for 10 yrs. and my wife worked at a place on Crow Canyon Rd. (We're both Bay Area born brats.) My posts in this forum on "Regular common carp bait" came from a local pond in that area.<br /><br />Sorry about your Reaganomics probs. My earnings darned near tripled that decade. Let us buy our first house.

Yaeh some tough times back then(and now!), I work in Benicia for Copart, easy drive from Concord, 14 mi. reverse commute. I'll bet DE. is a whole lot more affordable than here! Oh yeah, took kids fishing again yest., caught some great sunfish and big bluegills, snagged a small one and used it for "cat bait" shoulda seen that cat hit this thing! Just couldnt swallow it so I didn't get cat, sure did fight him 10 times or so! Leaving Friday for 3 day fishing trip, no kids or women and lots of cold beer! Towing my boat to Lake Crowley in CA/Sierras and also fish the Owens for trout!<br /> heinz.forster@copart.com Heinz

MAN-O-MAN.. you got that affordability right.. man, it's high out there.. pretnear twice as much.. still can get a nice house here for $ 120 thousand.. but its goin' up all the time .. to many people from NY & Conneticut movin' in ..<br />property taxes are dirt cheap .. $600 to 800 hundred tops a year & no sales tax.. <br /><br />but stay away everone.. no room for nobody else .an we like to keep the rif-raft out ;) ..<br /><br />used to love to fly fish the AMERICAN river<br />in Sacroment area. an BARNEY FALLS/HATCREEK up north... <br /><br />i did love it out there..!!

Re: Greatest day fishing w/ 3 yr old son!

I've tubed the Sacto River, below the dam. The majority of my fishing trips were bordered by highways 50 (north), 49 (west), 89 (east) and 108/120 (south). Although one of my favorite places used to be Davis Lake near Portola - until the third (fourth?) paved road, fee campground went in. Ahh, the stories.....<br /><br />Everything considered, I like Oregon better. I used to travel 3-5 hours from home to camping/fishing spots. OK for a weekend, better for a 3-day weekend. Now, I'm just barely over an hour from one of my favorite spots and under 2 hours from a 1/2 dozen others. I can even get single day trips in with ease. Ahh, the stories.....

Hey, a little secret between me and you. <br /><br />Try some raw bacon for the catfish.<br /><br />It isn't nasty smelling, stays on the hook, it's easy to come by......and..........it works real good.
