I am looking to start using my laptop interfased with my GPS on long trips (I will still keep paper charts as a backup.) and wondering if anyone can provide input on the different software's available.

Re: GPS Software

Depends on your GPS, LP.

If it is a Garmin, you can use Mapsource. Check with Garmin about which Mapsource CDs are compatible with your GPS. BlueCharts seems to be the right one to me.

Re: GPS Software

I use Terrain Navigator by Maptech and it will interface with my Garmin GPS and works "okay" It would work better if my GPS had WAAS but mine is an older unit. It on occassion shows me driving in the dirt next to the road or through a building but that is just due to the lower accuracy of the older GPS.

Nice web site to check.

http://mapserver.maptech.com/homepa...0060030900,1,1,0&CFID=761789&CFTOKEN=61332745

Bob

Re: GPS Software

I have a Garmin E-trex (handheld) and a Dell Latitude, and the same question as Luckypenny.
