Can you install a Lakes or Boundary Waters map update on a Garmin Nuvi? I was wondering if I could avoid getting another GPS and just download the water maps onto the same GPS I use in my truck.

I'm only on lakes, and probably don't need a larger marine display. I'd just like to know how far I've gone, how far back to the ramp, etc.

Thanks in advance for your hlep. The On The Water section of Garmin's webpage seemed to be geared to specific marine GPS's.

My garmin nuiveiw shows the lake /blue and will plot like your in a car plus show the roads that used to go across lake before it was there.

Most if not all of the Garmin Nuvis will take the charts that you are looking at, either as download or on the chip.
You can look at what devices compatible with a particular map by clicking the "Compatible Devices" tab on the webpage for the map that you are interested in. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=91300

When you install maps, you will have to change the map settings that the Nuvi is using. The default is the road maps. You'll want to change to the new set that you installed when you hit to water and then change back when you go driving. You will also have to change the settings from following the road to point to point when you are on the water.

If you aren't worried about the depth contours for the lake, you could just use the default road map and switch to point to point and turn on the tracks and use the trip functions.
