Good vacation lakes in Eastern, PA or Southern NY-state?

My family is looking to buy a vacation home in Eastern, PA. We live in North-Western NJ and didn't want to drive more than like 1.5 hours for a weekend getaway. We definately need to be either on or right near a nice big lake with good power-boating and fishing. We just got a 25' sport boat last year so we want to have some place to use it.<br /><br />Can anybody recommend some very nice areas and lakes in Eastern, PA, or lower NY State for a vacation home?

Here in Northeastern PA, Lake Wallenpaupack "The Pak" is the most popular and largest lake. About a quarter million sheckles will get you a 2500 square ft. home on the water front to dock that 25ft boat in front of. But if you contact http://www.obrienrealtor.com/ and tell him the man with honey bees referred you, he may give you a good deal. Also, not really sure what you mean by "good power-boating and fishing." Speaking as a fisherman, it is often difficult to recognize quality fishing on lakes with big fast boats. On the other hand, many power-boaters find it boring when restricted to riding around in circles on smaller lakes; and therefore making these lakes good fishing opportunities. If you place a higher priority on fishing there are many smaller lakes throughout the area that can facilitate your vacationing enjoyment.<br /><br />In southern NY the finger lake region is very pristine. Cayuga and Senica lakes are probably the most popular with good fishing opportunities for several different species. They both are known for holding "HUGE" lake trout. My favorite finger lake however, is Skeneatles (?spelling) as it is a little more quaint and quiet for my kind of enjoyment.

are the finger lakes the same size as the Pak?<br /><br />why do they call it the Pak btw?

Cayuga and Senica are indeed bigger than "the pak" but the others are probably comparable in size. However, If you are where I think you are the finger lakes would probably be a little beyond that 1.5 ride for you.<br /><br />They call Lake Wallenpaupack "The Pak" for short so folks don't get toungue twisted trying to pronounce the name.

yeah I am in northern jersey so I don't know how far the finger lakes are from me

yeah just mapped them, it's about 3.5 hours away from me, a bit further than I wanted to go, but I bet those lakes are a blast

You have the "proximity to NYC" problem. 16 million people, most of whom would love to have a vacation spot 2 hrs drive or less from town, push the prices to insanity, not to mention the weekend crowds. So you do want to go north and/or west as opposed to south and/or east. As an example, my brother once had a place on Greenwood Lake which would fulfill your requirements - is on the NJ/NY border not too far from the NY/NJ/PA junction, but it is VERY costly and crowded.
