Hello all, I purchased a 1998 invader mirage boat last year with a 115hp Evinrude. Used a couple of times this year and the last time we were out we started having issues with the motor. Took it to a marine to winterize and run a diagnostic and they found that one of the cylinders has 0 compression. To repair would cost the same the boat did, and we can't afford that right now. So I'm going to try and rebuild it myself.

Any tips/tricks or videos you would recommend to help would be very much appreciated.

To me the first step would be to determine the cause of no compression and the cause of the failure. A complete tear down would be my first step starting with the head on the failed cylinder to be sure it’s not just a gasket but with zero compression you may not be that lucky.
If that cylinder is toast you may be better off with a used power head as machine work can get expensive if you don’t have a friend to help out.
I’m sure others will chime in.

Did they scope the bad cylinder or pull the head?

Most likely it's dead but you could try a new head gasket if the piston and cylinder look okay.

In my area Seattle you can no longer get machining anymore locally.

Many videos online on how to rebuild.

Model # of this motor ?----Is it another crossflow with the dreaded broken piston ring syndrome?----Easy to rebuild a crossflow and better pistons are available.----You need 4 O/S pistons in my opinion.----And determine the cause of failure or you might need to do it again!
