I agree that those responsible must pay, I just hope we use our resources wisely and with forethought. Let's make it count! :)

Re: God bless America I am proud to be american

I just watched the Presidents speech and it was nice[for a change], to see The Jackass and the Elephant on the same side. We have suffered a terrible loss in New York, DC & Pa. I think everyone realizes we must all pull together and right this wrong. Hopefully we will have this behind us soon and we can rebuild and get back to normal.God be with all our troops and bring them back safely. Hal. P.S. I responded because I thought this belonged back on top tonight!

I, too, watched and listened. I just hope that the new generation of Americans have what the greatest generation had: The willingness to sacrifice and to stick with our President even when we appear to be losing the war.

We who remember Pearl Harbor and the shouting and flag waving. . .followed by Wake Island, Bataan, Corregidor, Balikpapan and a dozen other events in which we got our butts soundly kicked, wait to see if that same spirit is really there. It is very easy to cheer on a winner and a very different matter to stick it out when you seem to lose at every turn.

In Viet Nam, public support went to hell in a hurry when the press managed to make it look like we were losing the war. . . then turn it into a bad war.

We veterans are watching to see what you are made of, Americans. Will you stick it out with us and our President, or will you run for cover when the bands stop playing?

I'm betting that you will make your ancestors proud.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

J.B.

I share your concerns. As a thirty-nine year old, I'm a bit older than what the military is looking for, but if asked to provide my talents in any danger, I would be there in a heartbeat. These are troubled times that require the citizens, especially our young adult males, to come to the calling and place themselve in danger so that freedom and liberty is secured. What we need to realize is that if we do nothing, we are still placing ourselves in harms way. With all due respect to veterans since WWII, not since December 1941 have we as Americans had a real reason to defend against an enemy of the United States. We came close when Iran took hostages on American Embassy soil, and I proudly registered with the selective service when they re-instituted the draft at that time, but we chose not to travel that road. Personnally, I also feel we might have done more against the attacks on American soldiers in Lebanon, USS Cole, and others. This time it's more than six-thousand missing civilians paying the highest price for freedom... and it's time we pay every one of them back.

Let's hope we still have the guts that my parent's generation had. I have faith we do.

Lets keep this on top.

I agree with everyone and I would just like to ad that I too am a Viet Nam Vet and if called on I will gladly go. I think that every war that was left unfinished helped us get what happened at the WTC. I think that they believe that we are a weak nation now. I thoroughly believe that we will prove them wrong. I just hope that the one in charge has the foresight to see it thru to the end.
That should eliminate the reoccurence of another disaster.

Robert Lounsbury Proud to be an AMERICAN ;)

Right on J.B. I still have faith in this generation even though I don't believe we are as commited to our Country, as my generation was, without being preceded by a disaster, such as Sept.11,2001.

I am 64 years old, a mere baby during WW11 but even at my young age had "my part" in the war effort. I rolled tin foil and common string into "balls" to recycle for the war effort. Thought I was pretty **** important too.

Although a different breed of cat, our present generation has one thing Americans have always possessed, PRIDE!!! I too, have faith we will ALL do the right thing in this time of crisis. With this pride and our faith in God, we will right this wrong and maybe even kick a little A**! Happy Boating All. Hal. :)

Hey All,
Have to add my 2 cents worth..........I'm a retired Marine, having spent the better part of my adult life in the Corps (Vietnam to Desert Storm). I have every confidence that our Commander in Chief will stay the course. Further, I have every confidence that our citizens will be far more supportive than they were for those of us who did what what our country called upon us to do in the 60's & 70's. We will prevail. Each one of us may have to "suck it up" from time to time over the coming months, but we will prevail!
Backlash
P. S. For kentrussel....Thanks for your support too, eh!

Re: God bless America I am proud to be american

I thought that the President's speech was very good. However, somebody there in the Capitol building obviously didn't care for it very much. Did anyone else notice Hillary Clinton? She looked like her broom had flown off without her! Seriously, she could've at least *tried* to look supportive and patriotic. But, Noooooo... there she sat, glum expression on her face, rolling her eyes and giving only tepid applause. Oh, well - more opportunities for me to talk back to the television. :-\

I fear that the anti-war demonstrations will be far worse than we saw in connection with Desert Storm. Let's just say that 1993-2000 was a period of poor examples. I pray that I am wrong about that.

On the day World War II began, Dwight Eisenhower wrote his brother, "Hitler should
beware of the fury of an aroused democracy." Ike was right. I sure hope those words still ring true in the 21st century.

kenthrussell: Your words of support are appreciated greatly. I would like to believe that many Canadians feel that they have a dog in this fight, despite the fact that the Canadian government seems to have decided otherwise.

Regards,

BSL

Kentrussel, don't be embarassed over Creatan. It is one voice muffled by the outpoaring of love and support from Canada as a whole that we see here. We had one decending vote for the President's articles, and she is our shame. But it was re-assuring to see this socialist cowering behind Barny Frank at Bush's speach Thursday night! The cowards and criminals will be trampled by one people, marching in one direction.
So, don't be ashamed.Instead, look upon Jean as comic relief. God knows, we need it.

Re: God bless America I am proud to be american

kentthrussell,
I am curious as to why you are willing to say that you would fight for "our" country, especially if the cause wouldn't put yours in direct danger? Are you willing to fight for Isreal? Japan? Russia? If need be, I am willing to fight to secure the US way of life, because it is my way of life, but I don't really think that is the case. I don't see how this puts my liberty into jeopardy, we let these people in, and on the planes. I do though very strongly feel that terrorism should be attacked. How, I don't know, it's like the war on drugs, it can never be won, because we cannot precisely pinpoint the next idiot that want's to mow over innocent people, whever it may be. I do think the US has been looking the other way to a point though. Since 1990, at least once a year, except 97, 99, their has been a major terrorist attack on the us, or embassies. Yet we let the airlines lower their guard to make tickets cheaper and hopefull boost the economy. Like to old cleche says, " never underestimate you opponents" ;we knew we had opponents, and the evidence showed something of this nature was on the horizon. None could be prepared to what we were served with though.
I very much agree with fouled plug, to send people over without carfully planning will certainly cause some deaths, and to add to the death toll of this horrific event seems to me in vain.

Let our Prayers be with the fallen!

I can't speak for kenthrussel, but I know that if somebody decided to attack the guy down the street for no reason, I'd sure as hell try to give my neighbor a hand.
Terrorists know no boundaries. What happened to us today could be Canada tomorrow.
Semper Fi!
Backlash

I'll agree backlash, but helping the neighbor down the street, though somthing may happen and you might get injured or killed with an on the spot decision is different than commiting you life to die to protect some other country's way of life. I would be willing to help out against the fight against terrorism, if I were from canada, but not to get on a plane for them. Just my opinion though.
