Does anybody have any feedback about the Go fast Bottom paint? I like the fact that it's eco friendly but does it really work? I may put it on my 32' sailboat. Any feedback is welcomed.

Re: Go Fast Bottom Paint

The only opinion I have is "to much money for to little speed". When I saw the price of those "go fast"(the stuff I was looking at was called something else) paints and how often you have to apply it I went fast right past it.

i've asked the same question several times, but no real answers. i'm really interested in the clear bottom paint they've just introduced. don't really care about the speed improvements, but it would be nice.

Re: Go Fast Bottom Paint

Here is the web site I was looking at. http://www.dolphinite.com/products.htm I use the Boat/US brand, you know the cheep stuff so this stuff is way out of my price range. My boat sits on a trailer. The only reason I paint it is because the past owner did and I am going to strip it.

I know it's more expensive but it's on sale this week for $209 at Boat US. I like the fact that it's eco friendly and will pay the extra $30 per gallon if it works reasonably well keeping the growth off. The speed will just be a bonus. So that being said does anybody have any first hand info on how it works against weeds and slime?

Re: Go Fast Bottom Paint

josh, i'll post to try and keep this going. the clear bottom paint was new last fall, and from my failed earlier attempts, i don't think anyone around here has used it. my father-in-law tried to get it at wholesale through lewes (he owns a boat company), and they said they won't sell it until they gather consumer feedback. i guess it's just too new and not many people have taken a chance. i don't understand why- a crystal clear, antifouling, ablative bottom paint that you don't need to sand prior to application is the greatest product ever created. maybe it just sounds too good to be true. either way, i plan on appyling next week. but i won't have feedback until the fall :)

Re: Go Fast Bottom Paint

bump and a comment
For most people its to late (bottom is already scumed up) to use a clear coat on there boat. Unless it is a new boat but then you have to convince them to do it. I don't think the average boater is going to risk the money or risk a change in paints if there happy with what they use. The only people I think there is market for is new boats (clear coat). If you can get them it. As for the colors, if you are painting your bottom now to leave it sit in the water I don't think you are to worried about a mile of two an hour increase. Then there is people like me. Someone painted my boats bottom years back but I trailer. I wouldn't mind trying it especially if it stays glossy (I would be using black) but I know what it takes to make a boat go faster by just a mile an hour and I don't think you would even notice a difference after using it.
As for eco friendly, I don't think Natural Resources would let any product on the market that would be harmful to the water (at least not in are area) but if its truly a water friendly paint I may have to look at it again.

Re: Go Fast Bottom Paint

I actuall (if I decide to bite the bullet) will be using the blue not the clear Go fast. It comes in a couple of colors. Last year I spent $170 a gallon on micron ultra so going up to $209 isn't the end of the world. It would have been nice to have testimonials but It seems that it's just too new. If I do use it I'll let everybody know if my bottom turns into a chia pet.

Re: Go Fast Bottom Paint

f-in- good points. i look at it this way- i have no paint currently, but need to as i will be staying in the water this year. the clear paint seems worth taking a chance, as i have never seen a nice looking bottom on a painted boat. i also like the fact that it says no sanding is required (whether that is true is another story). i figure i can use it for a year or two, and if i decided to sell, i can either remove or present a good looking boat that looks unpainted, but is. again, i'll let you know my experience as i plan to apply next week if the weather works.

Joshua-it seems everyone went right past the real point here-the paint is ENZYME  based...the enzymes feed on the slime and thus prevent growth.also, barnacles feed on slime...no slime to eat=no barnacles ! plus, there is no primer required for aluminum applications resulting in $ savings.
