I'm getting a grinding sound in the Sterndrive. A1-G1. I'm gonna drain the gear oil and see what it looks like. Anyone have any ideas you may have experienced with this before. I'll post a video soon.

Does it change when you turn drive or change trim position

Could also be gimbal bearing or u joints

The Gimbal bearing was good when I checked it, just before I put the drive on yesterday. I may drain the lower gear oil and see what's up, in idle it doesn't make that noise, nor in slow speeds.

I'll run it and advise if the noise changes when I turn the wheel etc. It could be the joint I suppose, but it was replaced recently by a friend, and the u joint looked almost new when I put the drive in.

I just ran it for 10 min dry land in gear w ear muffs at a decent speed. It's not making the grinding noise now. I turned the wheel and went into reverse. Still no noise.

*I reached out to Ted in the comment section on one of his videos. Ted is a Youtuber - from "TedsMarineRepair8956" - In my opinion, he's an experienced and reputable boat mechanic, in the comments section he quoted me that "you must shift it quickly into gear to prevent the clashing sound" It can hang up if you don't,, causing that clashing issue.
