So- my 97 Evinrude Ficht 150 gave me 27 good years- but I knew this day was coming.
Before I officially pull the trigger- are there any things I should be aware with a new 2024 Merc 150 4 stroke? Specifically, related to known problems/issues with the engine.
In 97 my dealer did NOT inform me of any issues with the 97/98 Fichts, I found out years later- and I don't want to repeat that again.
(anybody need parts from a Ficht 150?)

Most new motor dealers are in business to SELL a new motor.
Later they will tell you of a problem. Just their way to stay in business.

Not many folks who buy the latest / greatest new technology are concerned these days.----People buy electric vehicles from start up companies as an example.----Would you buy that new car if you knew that head light lenses were $2000 or so?-----Or if it is $150 labor to install a new 12 volt battery.

For what it's worth, I know a few people who have bought the 115hp-150hp merc 4strokes in the last 10 years and not had any issues with them.

These are not high hour users. Just seasonal.

Agreed ----saw a new looking 4 stroke 115 HP on a pallet a few years ago.-----Asked the dealer if he was selling these 4 strokes now.-----He said ---" No , it blew up and boat was repowered "

There are some people who can make a block of Titanium into a dust pile.
My brother is one of them. Everything has problems very quickly.

The “seasonal” users are the ones with all the problems.

Motors used in commerical operation tend to fair much better. Had far fewer problems when I was putting 600-700 hours a season on the boat. Put 150 on it last year.
