hey guy's,

What does one use for the gasket and the hard sealant along the seam that is between the wood transom and the splashwell, thats paintable??

On my Nassau, when I was dismanteling her, there was a hard red sealant that looked like it was poured along the seam of where the wood transom and splashwell meet and a gasket between the flange that is screwed into the wood transom.

I searched some of the threads but have not found any insight to my quest.
Any ideas on what I can use.

This is the first weekend I had in months to work on the boat, sorry about not updating my restore thread and posting pictures but, so much to do, and so little time. Its on my list to do, and when I have something to show for my efforts I will update w/pictures.

Thanks

Thanks for the help!

Right about the red sealant stuff. Mine was OK but impossible to put back.

For the main contact surface at the transom I used white double sided foam tape. With the 1000 screws along that joint I thought it would seal OK. And the 1/16 surface that is exposed is, for now, white. But I have no idea how it will weather:confused: I did some 3M 4000 to seal the corners and did nothing to seal the port and starboard contact surfaces. Figured any water that got to the splash well would quickly run out the two drain holes.

I dont have a splashwell, but I do have supports under my aft deck, and they had memory foam type stuff there that lost their memory. So I wanted to replace it and didnt want to use something that held moisture to eliminate future wood rot there either. I found a Weather seal double sided foam sticky tape that is water resistant. Helps to keep the vibrations/rubbing down between the wood and aluminum.

i just screwed the splashwell to the transom, sealing all the screws with 5200, then laid a bead of 5200 along the seam on top.
