Watching the news on the current Helene hurricane, I see numerous gas stations flooded with many having water up to the top of the fuel pumps !
Watch where you buy fuel if you live in any areas affected by this hurricane and other flooded areas. Talk about getting water in your gasoline....the big question is, what happens when the floods recede ? Will those underground tanks be cleaned ? Lots of wasted fuel here.....how many will add some dry gas and pass it off ? Just a word of caution about where you buy your fuel !
As far as those affected by this hurricane, our prayers are with you all !!

I worked at a service station in college. if the tank cap is maintained, its waterproof to allow to be submerged by many many feet of water.

by law, the stations are required to check the water content of the tank when they verify tank levels. (look around, there should be some 24' long measuring sticks). they put a past on the end, dip in the tank thru the access cap. if there is more than about an inch or two of water, they have it sucked out.

If the tank cap is not maintained, then yes, the tank will fill up with water. that has happened more than once.

Usually the Tanks are vented with a pipe sticking up somewhere by the fuel station. If the water gets that high well, take your chances.
Pics in the news were at the top of the pumps, gotta assume that is over the vents....
