Hi Everyone,
for a few weeks now, i've been searching for this TICKING noise from my 97 Merc 35HP Tiller.. Last night, drained the LU oil, and found on the bottom plug, a piece of a tooth from one of the LU gears.. My assumption is that it is the FWD gear.. The ticking was mostly when the LU was shifted into FWD gear..
Ive sourced down the FWD gear at my local marine shop.. Now the question is.. HOW do I take part my LU? Its a nice easy bearing carrier.. it has 2 bolts on it, So looks like I don't need any special tools to remove the bearing carrier.. but How do i go about takin it all part to replace the FWD gear? I need the boat in 2 days for a Big remote fishing trip!!
Anyone happen to have a copy of the manual for this section? I somewhat have the parts diagram from online.. but doesn't give me too much to go by?
Any help will work wonders!!!! Thanks!@@!

What is your engine s/n?

Or could this be a 30 that you talk about in your previous posts, if so, still need the s/n or at least if it is a 2/4 stroke.

That s/n must be OG313878, not 06.

OG313878 comes up as a model;

1031213SD MERCURY 1996 30

Parts Listing:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/494.cfm

Service manual P/N: 90-826148R03

http://1manual.com/Mercury manuals/Service Manual PDFs/TwoStroke/826148r2/cover.pdf

You must have Adobe Acrobat reader installed to use this manual. If you scroll down to the lower part of the opening page, you will see the various engine components in red. Click on the one you want and when the first page opens, click on the "Save As" icon at the top LH corner of the page and you can save it to your computer.

See Gear Housing Removal, Section 6, page 6-11.
