I seem to get a lot of conflicting information when I search the web. Anyone fairly certain, through experience or otherwise, about what mix I should use?

Thanks in advance.

Stone

I use 32:1 on all my older ('57-'75) outboards. That's what the ratio was listed at on my 70 hp Johnson (1975). The way I look at it, I'd rather see smoke and know that they are getting oil. I don't think you should run 50:1 on an older motor under any circumstances.

bowhuntr

Hi, Stone.

JohnnyRudes from before 1964 should use 24:1. After that 50:1 is fine.

Good luck. :)

The manual I have states . Use 1/6 pint of oil with each gallon of regular automotive or white marine gasoline. If outboard oil is not available, use type MM SAE 30 Automotive Motor Oil. It also says to double the ratio on a new or overhauled engine. The manual is from 1967. It also says to use OMC Type C lube in the lower unit.
