Fuel Mixture for an 85 Johnson 6 hp

Anyone know the proper fuel mixture for an 85 johnson 6 hp?? I am pretty sure its 50:1 but am getting alot of smoke so, I may think my mix is off.<br /><br />Secondly, anyone know what I can check for heavy smoke??? I recently rebuilt the carb and bought new plugs. Runs rough and smokes alot.<br /><br />Any help is appreciated!!<br /><br />Jason

50 - 1 is the proper mix.<br /><br />Excessive smoke can be from old gas, cheap oil, cold burning plugs, or your air/fuel mix being out of adjustment.

Another very important thing I just thought of, Make sure the "smoke" you are seeing is NOT steam.<br />If you water pump is weak, it may be showing excessive steam from overheating.

Ummm...thanks!! How would I know if my water pump is weak?? I see a pretty intense,steady stream of water coming from the engine outlet- would this indicate strong water pump??<br /><br />Thanks !!<br /><br />Jason
