Have a 96 Maxum with 5.7l Mercruiser and converted it to a 4 BBL this summer. Any one have part# handy for a replacement fuel line that works with an Edelbrock carb? Added rubber hose temporarily.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

As long as the line is coast gaurd approved you can use rubber.
I'm sure mercruiser has the correct hard line for you boat just go to your local marina and tell them you need the hard line for a carter type 4bbl carb.

CG wants hard lines on the pressure side of the fuel pump and does not want a hose clamps spring force to be the sole means of holding a fuel line

in plain english i believe they only want flexable lines that can use a pressed fitting simalar to a hydralic line

they write it as conufsing as they can

tommays

Really looking for part numbers. Have tried Dealers twice and inevitably it's the wrong line. Is there specific years that the Carter 4bbl was used on the Mercruiser 5.7?

Thanks,

Mark

Of all the motors I've seen,
Rochesters were used on the 350s.....
Merc./Weber/Carters were used on the 4.3l,+ the 454s......

I'd do like rodbolt says,+ use a piece of 3/8s brake line......

I upgraded to the Edelbrock 4bbl this past spring the fuel line part from Merc is #32-805360t its described as '5.7l alpha with weber carb' 1987 -1996 ,along with this you will also need to change the fuel outlet fitting at the pump to an elbow thats also available from merc, part number is #22-43276. I used these parts and everything fit perfect, the fuel line was around $40usd and the elbow was about $5.

The Coast Guard has a revised document, Nov 2003, that is much improved. It has detailed descriptions and drawings of all parts of approved fuel systems. You can use flexible hose between the fuel pump and carburetor if you use the specified hose, fittings and clamps. They tell you everything you need to know in detail. I personally would feel safer with the crimped on fittings.

http://www.uscgboating.org/regulations/boatbuilder/downloads/fuelsystem.pdf

Excellent info on fuel tanks and other components also.

I would goto to a local hose suppiler. (we have goodyear industrial around here) or any auto parts that can make power steering or AC hoses and have them crimp the fittings. I also would worry about a total stainless (no flexible portion) stress cracking from fatquie as stainless fatigues pretty quickly. A good idea could go very very wrong if the line cracks.
My 2 cents anyhow.
Mike

My 94 5.7 came factory with the Weber/Carter AFB carb.

Every 5.7 4bbl I have seen of that year had the same carb.

I agree that the old AFB is a far superior carb for marine useage. Square bores make a lot more sense in this application. All around better carb too.

Marysville is just a little NW of Columbus.

In Lima OH there is an old movie theater downtown that has been a night club for quite a long time.

Question, What is the angle on the stainless steel flare? (at the connection). I know that it is less than alumnium as SS does fatuige. I used to know these things before I forgot...sl
