Is it better or does it matter if a filter is installed on my line going up to my motor or up under cowling?I put one on my line going up to the motor for now since my 9.9hp has little room under the cowling, but my 25hp has plenty under cowling, but use same tank and line for both motors when needed.thanks

It does not matter where the fuel filter is but if you could get it under the cowl it would keep things neat which is why most people have it under cowl. That and you don't run the risk of ripping it off. It really is just a matter of personal preference.

Are you saying that the filter is before the disconnect to the motor? I would want it after (inside the cowling) because you could introduce small dirt every time you disconnect and reconnect or switch motors. A filter inside the cowling would catch that and prevent it from getting further into the fuel system

this is a pic of the 115 Mariner on our Party Cruiser, and it's under-cowl filter. It's just a dinky thing, about an inch in diameter and the body is all of an inch and half, you can squeeze one of these in almost anywhere---

Before the gas gets to that filter, I have a big version of the same type of filter in the line between the tank and primer bulb, it catches everything first, the small one gets the leftovers from the disconnect and whatever else. I like the filter before the bulb because you can see the fuel, and you can see and feel with the bulb when the filter is flowing less than it should...
