If it me i would follow one of the tour boats out and back they run every day that way if i had any trouble, help would be in site, You also need to know that there is no water or fuel out there and your raido will not reach the main land from there

Like lucky jim says, plan on being self-sufficient while you're down there. Plenty of food, water and fuel and some critical spare parts wouldn't hurt either. They don't call them the Dry Tortugas for nothing. Sheltered anchorage can be a little chancy too if the wind starts blowing. Beautiful spot, though and worth the trip if you're prepared for it.

I am taking a shot on going to the Tortugas on 8/11/04. I hope I have good weather for the ride  I have a crew of 5 and we plan to camp for 3 days. Wish me luck !!

Just watch out for the "tree huggers". Get this -- they want all the Australian pines removed from there. Ain't that a switch??? Lots of protesting going on. Tempers are a bit on the high side.

Well Hurricane Charley had other ideas about me getting to the Tortugas !!! I did manage to catch a nice blackfin tuna off Islamorada before we had to evacuate on Wed 8/11/04.
