I was cruising in my boat and heard a snap. Nearly spilled my liquor all over my son. Just kidding. There was no drift wood or skier in the water. The boat bogged down for a mile. It then stopped going forward. It would start back up, but would just crap out when I went in forward. Old lady had to row us in 3 miles. Just kidding. Reverse still worked.

I'm guessing something broke in the lower unit. It is a 88 Yamaha Pro 50 that was running as good as ever when it gave up. Do you just buy a new lower unit or can you fix the one you have?

Thanks for any advice,
Steve

until you know what is wrong, you will not know what to do to fix it

As long as there’s not “Ahole” in the case I’m sure it can be repaired. And very entertaining read!!!

I drained it and the oil looked good. Maybe some metal splinters on the plug. Overall, not much there. It always looks like less oil than I put in. I have started the lower unit breakdown and am battling the carrier bearing without a proper puller. I've wanted to replace the seals so now I will have a look inside. After multiple google searches I continue to see "shift interupter switch." I don't know if my motor has that yet or if it could explain the slow bog down after the snap sound. We shall see. Advice is always appreciated.
