I have a 1973 888 drive. The original 2 bbl intake was replaced back in the late 80's with an Edelbrock 4 bbl intake which has always worked great ( I have owned 17 years since '95).
I am worried since I now use the boat in salt 2 to 3 times a year for 6 to 8 hours each outing. I know what salt does to alum.
Here is my question....I hAve access to a '65 cast iron intake from a 289 Ford 4bbl, will it work ok on the Marine 302?
Thanks for your help!!

Not a big deal if you flush it out after the day in salt , if you are really worried take a plug out of a heater hose port in the manifold and put a pencil anode in it. Yes the 289 manifold should work but I don't think you need it.

Well if you don't think it's a big deal, I won't worry about it too much. I flush the thing for about 20 minutes after each salt outing.
I always keep my outdrive anodes up to par and I would like to try that "pencil Anode" idea. Can you get those at online marine sources?
I will have to look and see where I have an available port on that Edelbrock mani. Are the pencil anodes all about the same size thread or what?
Thanks for your advice, I do like the old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it."

Dan T, I found a whole bunch of those engine anodes online. Lots of threads and lengths to choose from. I will get out there this weekend and determine a good size.
Can I locate the anode anywhere on the engine or does it need to be on the intake? Also, is it overkill to apply more than one?
Thanks again.

If you are really worried about it, just go buy a new Edelbrock intake for it. It's a couple hundred bucks, but I'd rather have that than the old 289 stuff as far as performance is concerned. As long as you have flushed it out like that, I doubt you'll see any issues continuing on as-is.

Sounds good! I will just keep on flushing!
Thanks
