I have a 1989 Bayliner with dual Ford 351ci marine engines (260 HP Gasoline). One motor needs to be replaced(due to internal cylinder rust from possible blown head gasket and extended storage--about 8 years),other engine is good. Local Ford dealer (in Mexico) has a new-in-crate 1992 351ci automotive long block (#92TY6006DC). Is this motor a compatible replacement for the marine engine? (Compression ratio, heads, valve springs, cam lift-duration)? --- if heads are same, should they be pulled and head gaskets replaced with marine gaskets? --- Should cam be exchanged with old motor (it's still good)? Any other pitfalls to be aware of? --- any advice or suggestions will be appreciated.

Re: Ford 351ci marine engine

If she's been sitting for 8 years it's probably best to replace both engines, manifolds, and related hardware... You can find some very good remanufactured engines with warrantys up two years for less than you might think.. $1600 each.. For the ford crate motor NO.. Different cam and I would NOT reuse the cam you have...<br />Do this work now so you won't have to do it later... ;)
