I have a Force 90 HP outboard motor which was running quite well. Unfortunately, this summer, I have not been able to start it. A local mechanic told me that it might need a $400.00 part (a circuit board, I think??). Another mechanic said that he thought this part in the 90 HP motors might be defective and that there might be some kind of recall on them. I would like to know if this is true, but am not sure how to proceed. I can't find a Force website, though I understand they are owned by Mercury Marine/Brunswick. Do you know how I can reach the company or how I might proceed with this problem? The summer is half over!!
Thanks for your help!!!!
Jeff B.

Re: Force 90 HP outboard motor

This site is probably the best FORCE site on the net. No pun intended. After the winter layover there is a 90% chance your old gas has turned to varnish in the carb jets. I doubt an electric problem. Find a shop who's comfortable with FORCE and has used parts.

Dear Sony2001,
Thanks for your quick response to my message regarding my Force 90 HP motor. Do you have the Force website you mentioned in your reply? Also, what's involved in cleaning the "varnish" out of carburetor jets? Do parts have to be replaced? Thanks for your help!!!

justjeffb@yahoo.com

Re: Force 90 HP outboard motor

justjeffb; There isn't a site just for FORCE. But so many FORCE owners have flocked here that it has become the biggest and best. Your carbs have to be opened and the varnish disolved in the jets and elsewhere. No parts involved. The engine is simple and straightforward. With a manual and a competent lawnmower mechanic it could be done, that is if your hundreds of miles from a boat shop. Use the seach feature here {FORCE} and accumulate printouts of repair proceedures. The addition of a gas stabilizer prior to storage very important.

Mercury has stopped producing FORCE and MARINER, but there are tons of used parts and jobber parts available.

Hey Sony2001,
Thanks again for the quick reply. Do you know where on this site I can find printable repair procedures for my Force 90 HP motor? I'm not very good at using search engines. I really appreciate the advice.

justjeffb

justjeffb, on your posting just below POST REPLY is the word SEARCH. Go thru there and under FORCE OR FORCE 90 you will see previously related postings. Start your own operator's manual by downloading the comments here. Press PRINT on your browser. Cut out the the best and paste them in a scrap book. Le me know when the boat is running!
