Re: Force 1993 70hp loss of power
Sony's right, decarbonize. Check plugs to see if they are blackened, change if necessary. It wouldn't hurt to run a can of power tune through it. You can get this at your merc dealer, and just follow the instructions on the can. You need to take the cowling off and with the engine off, take off the cover on the front of the carbs. With throttle all the way down, check to see if butterfly's in carbs are wide open. If it has a quick response in neutral, and seems to run good, the answer to the rpms is to go down in pitch on the prop to get it up to 5500. Every inch of pitch down will give motor back about 2 to 300 rpms but this varies with props. If you have a tach, check by that. Most prop shops will let you test before you buy them. I am not sure what zip you are looking for or comparing to, but a Force engine measures HP at flywheel, not propshaft like every one else. That motor is equivalent to about a Merc 50 or 60 hp. Depending on what boat it is on, it may never have any zip. Hope this helps. Good Luck
