Strange problem I put an 86 power head on a 90 frame.All of the ports line up on the exhaust plate The engine runs fine w/ears on my front lawn up to 3300rpm. When I put the boat in the water only I get water above the rubber boot and exhaust in the cowling. Does the boot seal off exhaust comming from lower unit. Does something happen when the pressure from the submerged engine force up. Exhaust appears to be rising as opposed to beng injected from the powerhead. I have replaced the exhaust plate gasket and resealed the powerhead on to the motor frame. If exhaust was comming from a leak in the head should it not be there all the time ie w/ears on. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

those motors used different exhaust tuning
tubes. maybe your trouble is in that area.
One was bent more than the other so If you are using to old one it may not seal right.
Just a thought...hope it helps.

------------------
...have fun...corm

cubic inches = power
power = speed
speed = FUN

Email me if you need to.

Re: force 120 exhaust in cowling

I have had this problem with my Force 120. The problem I had was that on idle the engine would cut out. The exhaust fumes from the prop was bubbling up into the hood and suffercating the carbs. replaced seal and all was well.

Darren, I have the same problem. What seals did you replace and how difficult was it? Also, does your 120 hp force drop down to the trim position if left high in the water on tilt and power applied?

Wayne, hi there, If you look down inside the hood you can see a rubber seal that surround the leg. It was that seal that was changed. It was done under warranty by an agent so my experience is minimal. However I know that they had to take the lower coweling off to change it. Sorry I can't be of more help! Good luck....
