We fish for cobia in april east of Panama City, Fl. We use live eel. I want to catch some on a fly rod. I've never fished for them with a fly. I need some help rigging up for them. I've got a #10 rod and a 10-11 reel. I tie my on flies. But I don't know what to tie.

From what I have heard and read is that you need to tie up some that are like the bunny strip flies you use for largemouth bass. These are the ones that sort of imitate a plastic worm. I know guys that are not flyrodders that use plastic worms rigged on a S/W hook to catch Cobia.

Tie some deceiver patterns using Tiemco 800s #4/0-5/0 or any short shank. I like the mustad tarpon hooks in #4/0-5/0 Make your deceivers 5-7" long.Go to www.flyfishingmagazine.com Click on the reader bonus page click Aug-Sept.,you'll see the stealth fly. Tie a few of them in differant colors, white saddle hackles/black; W/saddle W/chartreause :)

The Unorthodox Flyfisher
