floating trailer

A neighbor of mine bought a 14 ft. flat bottom with a 15 horse motor and home made trailer. He ask if I would go with him to run it for the first time. We went to launch, the boat and motor ran great. When we tried to load it I couldn't get it to line up on the trailer. The trailer had alum wheels and car tires. The trailer would float. Every time you tried to load it would float to one side or the other. We had to put smaller tires and rims on it to keep the trailer from floating.

Re: floating trailer

My trailer has that problem. Mine is a tandem axle trailer, with large fenders, and is a modified trailer to fit the boat (p.o. modified a trailer by making the bunks out of 4x8's or 10's...not sure never measured them but they are BIG). The floating trailer makes it interesting to load the boat solo in a mild wind. I've learned to compensate for it and have a system that works but it doesn't look pretty loading and it was REAL interesting the first couple times doing it.

Re: floating trailer

Try adding weight to the back end of trailer. It may help.

Yep ^^^

A piece of railroad iron strapped to the axle would work wonders.....

Re: floating trailer

He's going in too deep. With a 14' boat you don't need to sink the trailer. Just winch it on.
