My fishing buddies bailed on me
My husband had work to do (but I knew this in advance)
My 16 year old son's LaCrosse coach made them all feel guilty and inferred Varsity would be on the line if anyone missed a practice. So he was out over the weekend.
17 year old son had prom to go to the night before and wasn't getting home until very late/early.
21 year old son had a wedding to film
12 year old son hates to fish (if I wasn't involved with his birth I'd kind of wonder if he was mine, lol...someday he may come around, but I'm just happy he is a sweet boy).
So it was me and big Leech Lake.
The morning started out at 47 degrees and a light drizzle. I went out in layers and rain gear and hit the water early, but not before dawn.
Rain and mist were on the lake, it was very peaceful for opener, there were several boats out on my bay, but nothing like it would have been if the weather were nicer.
Seagulls, loons and would occasionally pass by and check me out, the north shoreline of the bay is banked by the Chippewa National Forest, and as I sat jigging quietly by the shore I spotted a couple white tail deer and a beaver busy dragging stuff back to it's house. I usually see lots of eagles, but didn't see any today/saturday, and no black bears.
Over all it was a peaceful way to spend the day. I had no one to talk to, and perhaps I should have been lonely, but I was content. It was a good way to spend a grey drizzley saturday. When the weather started to clear and a I pulled my hood back I did get a couple double takes from boats full of men, I'm sure were wondering about the solitairey woman out there fishing..lol.
I didn't do well on the fishing front, caught a couple jumbo perch and a couple small walleyes. But fishing is always a good day in my book.
Thought I'd share.
