I'm tring to learn about freshwater fishing in eastern NC and what time of year to fish for different fish. Somebody told me bass fishing was dropping off now and crappie fishing was coming in, But today I caught a real nice 3lb bass up by a pier. I'm confused about what to fish for at different times of the year. Is there a calendar or book or something. I know about the saltwater fishing and the stripers, they are usually down here this time of year, but I guess the water is still too warm. Anyway I need some help on the fresh water side of things, if anyone can shed some light.

You can catch any freshwater fish anytime of the year. You just have to know where to find them and how to catch them at a given time.

Yup, all the calendars do is mess with your head. Just go fishing.

Re: fishing calendar?

Hey dragonfly, I'm in Eastern NC too.
Find a good fisherman to help with the details.
Hit the local bait shops, ask them for some tips...not Walmart!
Or try one of those calender watches, I have a buddy that swears by them...but he really doesn't need one since he has so much experience, they just confirm his 'hunch'.

Check out some web sites too. I found a site that is local to this area, REALLY helpful (salt and sweet/fresh) not sure if I can post it here, PM me and I'll send it to you.

Re: fishing calendar?

Our park department puts out information on types of fish, months to fish them and even depths to fish at. We catch all kinds of fish at any time of year, and go by our instincts on where and when to fish. the information from the park department is not usually very accurate. Bait shops ask us and others what is happening and have more up to date fishing data. Most fishermen have their favorite spots and won't tell you about them,; but will say what's being caught and how to catch them.
