I have a Xintex M-1-R that doesn't apear to work. I sent it back and was told by their tecks that there was nothing wrong with it. Yet, it only sounds alarm when I disconnect the sensor from the quick connector. I actually spilled a cup of gas directly below its sensor but alarm didn't sound. Any one had problems with this unit or am I incorrectly testing it?

Re: Firebouy Fume Dector Malfunctioning?

I never found one which I would say works as advertised. Gas is heaver then air and should pick up the fumes but how much time needs to pass to work is unknown. I have the older model and it wouldn't come on after sitting all night. I would drive somewhere and while sitting it would go off. I have an EFI engine and allways run my blowers before starting so after a while I just disconnected the thing because no matter when it went off I never smelled any gas. So mine was going off to often and use maybe not enough. Go safety using blowers as we all know how to do will keep most everything from running are day.

In addition to gas fumes, the M-1-R can also detect high concentrations of battery hydrogen or engine exhaust

I don't trust this piece of crap. Ironically, several years ago it seems to me that I had one installed on a Sea Ray Amberjack. It was a bit too sensative. It would go off sometimes if I had following seas and wind blowing back towards my stearn.

Well it is there for your safety. (Exhaust) in this instance

I don't have a problem with it being oversensative, but this one will never sound an alarm, even after dumping gas under it. If I have a line leakage, I don't think it would sound.

Maybe the sensor is the problem. Are you referring to plug at the switch/sensor in the bilge near the bottle?

I have one and it works great. Picks up gasoline, hydrogen sulfide, LP, and Carbon Monoxide. I always use it, but also run blowers and a sniff test after fueling.

I have already sent in sensor. Red thing that plugs into main feed wire to console alarm. Firebouy says OK.

From the test manual

M-1-R Gasoline Fume Detector from Fireboy-Xintex
M-1-R Gasoline Fume Detector from Fireboy-Xintex

Forth line down below the picture of the detector

Unplug sensor from head unit while it's powered up.(ignition switch on) The red led will come on and the horn should sound within 15 seconds. If this is what it's doing then by there test methods it's functioning properly.
To test the sensor.
Use a butane lighter (striker wheel removed) hold the lighter to the sensor and release some butane. The red light should come on in 3-4 seconds. The horn will sound. Remove the lighter mute the alarm and in a few seconds the warning light should go out.
