What information can I supply someone that could lead them to pointing me in the right direction for the propeller size of my boat.

I believe what's going on is a cavitation burn in the propeller. I also believe that the wrong propeller may be on the boat. There is a second one that came with the boat that is smaller in blade size and I'm wondering if I can put this one on.

Is this a question I should take to a local marine dealer?

Also I was told that a chip in the hull can cause this, is that a fact in the matter?

The boat is a 1993 - 19.5 ft Thompson Carrara with a 4.3 Mercruiser and Alpha One Generation II drive.

on the boat now is (cant read the first number)8 - 16440 - 16

and the spare that came with the boat had -

MICHIGAN 03 10 24 and a stamp 594V

Thanks.

Re: Finding the coorect propeller size

To start we need to know the ratio of the drive (found on the port side near the top of the drive) and the HP of the engine. Also what kind of boat is a Carrera - bowrider, etc.?

Also - what is your RPM at wide open throttle? You may be slightly underpropped.

Nornally a cavitation burn would be caused by too high a mounting, but I doubt that is the case in your situation...
