I just purchased a 1998 Sea Ray BR 185. Love the boat except the speedometer doesn't work. One guy told me to manually insert a small drill bit in the Mercruiser Alpha 1 lower drive opening in the front and twist it around. I did get some gunk out of the hole but the next time out the speedometer didn't work. I also tried using the spray hose from a car wash to blow into the hole but not luck either. All other gauges work fine. Any suggestions? I want to find the answer before my husband does!

Re: faulty speedometer

Find where the little black tube exits the lower unit, it's in the leading edge area(just under the gimbal), pull the end off,+ Blow air back through it...
