Exhaust bellows install Alpha one

Some of you have posted about the use of Power Tune to slide the bellows on when installing.
What about bellows adhesive? Can the power tune be used along with adhesive without washing out or destroying the adhesive?
I gave up last year trying to get that damn exhaust bellows on and went to a tube instead. I would like to get the bellows back on, so I ordered a Quicksilver bellows (instead of the Sierra), and the correct tool hoping to have better luck.

Power Tune is ONLY for the bell housing end of the uni joint bellows on the Gen II drives. For the gimbal housing end, bellows adhesive, NO Power Tune.

Exhaust bellows... Bellows adhesive on the gimbal housing end, push it on. Once the clamp is secured, more bellows adhesive on the bell housing end, (bellows and bell housing) and use the tool to pull it on (don't release the tool until the clamp is done up). It's a PITA, but do-able... No Power Tune....

Just did mine last weekend if you don't have the tool you it will be more of a PITA. Mine is a GEN 2- had a note in manual about putting the tool in the end of the bellow to just slip it over the bellhousing , then reposition the tool deeper in bellows (3rd bellows serration) to pull it up and tight . This worked pretty well but some colorful language and beer is required.. .

FWIW I use no lube or adhesive, simply clean both gimbal and bell housing flanges and install the bellows dry. Never had one come off, ymmv

It was so stupid easy. Before that, I tore 2 new Bellows, wasted an entire day, and it popped off 1st time I lifted the outdrive. Ridiculous

Seems every time I use adhesive on the exhaust bellow, they pop off after a bit. If I install them dry they stat put.

What's a "Tube"?

Common replacement part supplied by mercury (oem). Designed initially for small block engines with bravo 3 drives to alleviate runnability issues caused by excess exhaust draw/vacuum created by the counter rotated props. The bellows would collapse and not allow exhaust gases to properly exit the system. Tube gives said gases an "easy out" way to exit at higher rpm.

Tube is now used by many diyer's who cannot fathom why mercruiser created an exhaust bellows in the first place

Hint: the bellows helps alleviate exhaust noise and transom sooting which is why I choose to go the bellows route and save the tubes for proper use/"street customers", ymmv
