Is 153 hours exceeive for a boat engine? it is a 1972, 65 Hp pushing a 18' Tri-Hull mainly used for pleasure and fishing?

The average yearly use in the US is 50 hours. So that is very very low. I'd be curious to find out why it was hardly used. With proper set up and care a two stroke outboard has a life of several thousand hours. Non use can sometimes be worse than heavy use. <br /><br />Good luck!

That motor must have seen alot of storage time. Make sure all the wiring, lower unit and that compression is good. When they sit alot, it can be a problem. Otherwise, that is REAL good hours.

How do you know it only has that much? Is is on an hourmeter as old as the engine, or did someone simply guess?
