Evinrude Lower Unit 40Hp Shift Rod Length

Can anyone tell me how to check or set the shift rod length of 1998 Evinrude 40Hp E40ELCEC? <br /><br />Just got lower unit repaired, put earmuffs on, ran through fast fwd and reverse and found metal chips in gear oil. I believe mesh is set incorrectly.

could be your flywheel is rubbing against something up top, i also found metal chips, but not in the oil, the chips could be coming from somewhere and being found in the oil?

if its in the oil it came from the foot gears . take it back to the person who worked on it. papasage

The shift rod length is not adjustable. Follow papas advice.
